An orange-haired boy beats up some hooligans for knocking over flowers laid for a dead girl, and we soon that he is Kurosaki Ichigo, who is able to see ghosts. A weird creature appears in the town and wreaks havoc, but is stopped by a woman dressed in a black kimono. She appears in Ichigo’s room later, and we discover that she is a Shinigami, and that the creature is a Hollow or evil spirit. One appears at Ichigo’s house, attracted by his high spirit power. In a bid to save his family, Ichigo becomes a Shinigami.
